Yesterday we posted an exclusive interview with “Serious Parody”, revealing plans of a new video game entitled Wrestling Manager to be released this summer. We can now give out some details regarding the project.
Serious Parody are working on 2 wrestling games, one which should be released in the summer on the iPhone/iPod via the App Store (Wrestling Manager) and a full blown wrestling simulator that should be appearing in late 2012 on at least one major console. While Wrestling Manager has been designed for the iPhone, plans are to spread it out on other mobile platforms over time. With the first game they are aiming to deliver a great wrestling game for mobiles which is either hard to come by or non-existant at the moment.
Regarding licensees for the game like WWE, TNA and ROH, a deal hasn’t been possible as a currently unproven company. SP remain in talks with some major promotions however, for the future. They’ve met with the owners of one of the major companies who have said the artwork in the planned games is fantastic so one might come aboard for a second game. They want to adopt the Pro Evolution/Winning Eleven approach of making a really good game, superseding the need for licenses in the beginning.
Wrestling Manager is like a mash up of Game Dev Story, FIFA’s Ultimate Team and GM Mode from the old Smackdown games. You start out as a small indy promotion putting on shows in tiny arena’s to earn money which you can then spend on better talent, new match types, story-lines, contracts and staff. As your promotion grows, the amount of money you earn will grow and eventually you’ll develop enough of a following to release DVD’s, sign TV and PPV Deals.

Ugh, this game is a serious waste of 10 dollars. Save your money unless you really really like buggy games that crash!
I expressed my concerns to the developers about the crashes whilst playing. There is talk of the app being patched to fix the problems. Let’s hope so.
WWE do seem to want to block anything that they haven’t put up on youtube, you would think for a trailer they wouldn’t do it..

Cheers guys, we really appreciate the help. Can I just add that we aren’t ruling out licenses altogether for the first game, it’s just no deal has been reached as of yet. iPhone games are prone to updates and should we secure the licenses that we are after, we will patch them in asap, rather than just waiting for a second game.
